This lecture will address the recent evolution of Geography Education in Portugal. Portuguese existing curriculum was launched in 2001, within a framework of a skilled centered National Curriculum. Since then much constraints have arisen due the organization of the school system. In 2013, the notion of a skilled centered curriculum has been altered into a new version, more content oriented. This lecture will address not only the institutional framework of Geography Teaching within the Portuguese educational system but also the particular case of teacher training focusing on ITE. This field is particularly pertinent as it has undergone some recent changes that have reconfigured the relation between the University and Secondary schools. Lastly, some aspects will be discussed –the main features of School Geography in Portugal, the training teachers have and what the main problems Geography has in the school system.
