Continued fractions play a major role in Combinatorics, as was shown by Flajolet in a seminal paper. One of the earliest occurrences is the study of De Bruijn, Knuth and Rice about the height of planar trees.
Authors like Ramanujan and Touchard were also intrigued by continued fractions.
The present speaker will review some of his earlier efforts in the area in the hope to be a reasonable opening act for the main event of the day.
