Karl BRANDSTÄTTER | The rough and the smooth stone
In his stained glass-work “Der raue und der glatte Stein” Brandstätter was inspired by the medieval Bauhütte, in which the development of mankind was symbolically represented by this theme. “The student who begins his studies can be compared to a rough stone that only loses its rough side through his work at the university and in the course of the years becomes an educated, open and tolerant person, a smooth stone in fact”.
