UNIVERSITY
Campus
The University of Klagenfurt is located in western Klagenfurt, close to Lake Wörthersee. The University of Klagenfurt is one of the few campus universities in Austria. The campus of the University of Klagenfurt covers a total area of around 100,254 m² and includes 51,379 m² of unspoilt green space, meaning that students are able to achieve the perfect balance between study and relaxation. Since 2007, the campus has also been home to Austria’s most contemporary University Sports Institute (USI), which has an area of 1156 m² available for sporting activities. The USI offers a wide range of sports on campus, as well as a variety of sports camps all across Europe.
Art and culture are to be found everywhere on the campus of the University of Klagenfurt. Built by Roland Rainer, the extensively refurbished ‘Vorstufengebäude’ was the very first university building to be built on campus and is now protected by a preservation order. The University of Klagenfurt regularly hosts art exhibitions and showcases of academic work and research. Set up in 1986, the University Cultural Centre (UNIKUM) works to forge links between artistic practice and research into creative subjects. Most striking of all are the artworks by internationally renowned artists installed during the 2002 phase of construction on campus.
Family Services at the University of Klagenfurt offers a comprehensive range of services to members of the university with children so that they are able to achieve a better work-life/study-life balance. These services include flexible childcare, childcare over the summer holidays and babysitting. The programme offered by Family Services also includes custom childcare solutions, such as a babysitter jobs board, childcare around events and workshops and childcare during Advent.
The Lakeside Science & Technology Park is located right next to the campus of the University of Klagenfurt. The park enables the University of Klagenfurt and companies to pool their expertise in modern information and communication technologies. Most departments in the Faculty of Technical Sciences are based in the Lakeside Science & Technology Park, which facilitates excellent links between the university’s research and teaching, theory and practice. This transforms the park into a hub that connects the university with industry, research with practice, and business with society.
The Lakeside Science & Technology Park is also home to the “build! Start-up Centre Carinthia”. For over ten years, the centre has been offering support to students and alumni wanting to set up their own start-up on the basis of an innovative business idea. Even as they study, the entrepreneurs of the future can prepare to start their own business by attending lecture series and working towards the “Entrepreneurship Certificate”.
The campus of the University of Klagenfurt stretches across an area of 10.25 hectares and has a varied cultural and sporting programme!
