BeriLo is a cloud-based end-to-end solution integrated into our institutional environment to enable active co-operation between teachers, students and librarians when it comes to creating, administrating, using and evaluating literature lists.

How can I access the programme?
BeriLo direct access
To start BeriLo, follow this Link or go to the BeriLo-website and choose the button “BeriLo direct access”.
Both ways take you to the BeriLo homepage. To generate a new list, choose the button “new list” and give it a heading. To complete this step, press the button “create”.
Access via Moodle
Activate the editing function of your Moodle interface with the button “Edit mode”.
Choose “Add an activity or material” from the menu below.
A new menu pops up. Choose “External tool” (blue jigsaw piece).
Give your literature list a suitable heading and choose “BeriLo” as your “pre-configured tool”. Save your choice.
After saving, BeriLo pops up on your Moodle page. You will recognise the blue jigsaw piece and the name you chose.
When accessing BeriLo for the first time, a new segment for creating a new literature list pops up. To use all BeriLo features, opening the programme in a new tab is recommended.
Now choose the button “create new list” to generate a new list.
A new window pops up, asking for the name of your list. When you have entered the name, press “continue”.
In the next step, please specify how many sections you want to give your list. There are several options.
Now resources can be entered into the list.
How can I add literature?

Library search (integrated)
Use integrated library search if you know author and/or title of search item and that the item is in the library’s holdings.
Choose “Add”, then “Search the library”.
Start your search by entering title and/or author of search item. Choose a section of your literature list (if existent) and add the resource found. Choose the plus sign to add resource to your list.
Or choose “Add & Edit” to add, for example, a note or a category.
Maybe open detailed view of a hit to find more information. Use the suggestions made to add, for example, the electronic version of a title (E-book).
How can I add titles from surf@ubk and/or external pages?
Using the bookmarklet “Cite it!”, resources from library catalogues, online platforms, data bases, websites or video portals can be collected and added.
Cite it!
To install “Cite it!”, select the column settings in BeriLo and choose “Cite it!”.
A new window pops up, explaining the installation of “Cite it!”. Drag the button “Cite it!” out of this window and into the bookmark menu bar of your browser.
“Cite it!” & surf@ubk
Titles found in the University Library’s online catalogue (surf@ubk) can be added to your literature list using “Cite it!” (bookmark menu bar).
Once you’ve chosen a hit in surf@ubk, use the button “Cite it!” in your bookmark menu bar to open a new window. Choose the literature list of your choice resp. a section in a list.
Using “add”, you can import the resource of your choice into your list.
The title has been added to the literature list of your choice.
Maybe update your browser tab.
“Cite it!” and other webpages
The tool “Cite it!” can also be used for external webpages and online platforms (YouTube, Amazon, aso).
Before adding external resources, pleases check if the item is in the library. If so, input it via surf@ubk resp. integrated library search. If not, continue.
Call up an URL and choose “Cite it!” in your bookmark menu bar. Choose literature list (or a section in your list) and confirm with “add.”
If you want a resource to be acquired before adding it to your list, please contact the library spokesperson of your department. In this case, choose “end”.
The library will contact you on arrival of the item ordered.

How can I choose tags and comments?
Tags
If necessary, individual tags in your literature list can be marked using “tags”.
The following categories are available: “Pflicht“, „Leseempfehlung“, „Semesterapparat“, „Prüfungsrelevant“ und “Externe Ressource”.
Setting deadlines
Using “edit item”, you can set deadlines in the tab “due date”.
Supplementary comments
You can also comment on individual titles in your list. For example, you can give additional information for users.
How can I create a list of my favorites?
Using “Favorites”, you can create a private literature or reading list, for example, a theme-based literature collection for activities other than courses. Favorites can also be used as temporary storage or repositories for literature you have found but don’t (yet) want to add to any of your literature lists. Important: if you start your list from Moodle, open BeriLo in a new register to access the feature “Favorites’”.
How can I add multimedia content?
Using the bookmarklet “Cite it!”, resources from library catalogues, online platforms, data bases, websites or video platforms can be collected and added.
Cite It!
To install “Cite it!”, select the column settings in BeriLo and choose “Cite it!”.
A new window pops up, explaining the installation of “Cite it!”. Drag the button “Cite it!” out of this window and into the bookmark menu bar of your browser.
Navigate any website to access the content of your choice and use the function “Cite it!”.
Is a current course reserve still necessary?
A current course reserve is a valuable instrument to provide your course literature centrally and collectively
The various course reserves can be found at aau.at/ub and surf@ubk. The physical titles are collected on level 3 of the University Library and are kept there for the duration of your course. They are for exclusive use in the library to guarantee easy and constant access.
If you want the titles on or a part of your literature list to be installed as a course reserve in the library, mark the relevant title with the tag “course reserve” and send an email to berilo [dot] bibliothek [at] aau [dot] at .

How can I filter?
Can I keep my bibliographical references?
You can export all bibliographical references from any of your lists into various formats (Word, PDF, Excel, aso) or into one of the various literature administration programmes.
To do so, go to the menu via the three dots and choose “Export list”.
In another window, you can see the various export options. In addition, you can choose if you also want to import the categories you created, notes for students, links, aso. To complete this process, choose “Export”.
How can I upload files?
Attention: your files are saved in the Amazon Web Service (AWC) Cloud. Please respect the data protection declaration.
To upload a file in BeriLo, choose the button “Add” and go to “Upload files”.
A field opens, and you can choose between “File” and “Folder”. Using Drag & Drop, you can drag the file or folder of your choice into the grey field below the menu.
Uploading files – attention: file is saved in AWS Cloud!
Once a file has been successfully uploaded, another field to choose copyright information opens. You can choose between own authorship or no declaration. In a next step, you can specify details like publisher, author, URL, aso. In a last step, you can choose which unit your files and folders will be added to. In addition, you can choose if this file is visible to students. To complete the process, just choose “add”. A small window pops us, reminding you that you are uploading an external resource into your list. Please choose “external resource” and complete this step with “OK”.
How can I make my list accessible?
Library check and publishing of list
Once you have completed editing your list, choose the button “My list is ready”.
Another window pops up and you can decide if your list goes to the library and is shared with your students.
Choose “’list info” in your menu bar to review library check status.
To start with, the list is in “library check in process” status. You are notified once the library check is completed.
