LibKey / BrowZine
The University Library has licensed LibKey/BrowZine for its users, a software solution that significantly speeds up access to e-journals and the articles they feature.
At present, LibKey/BrowZine includes most of the e-journals licensed by University Library Klagenfurt as well as a large number of open access journals. This service can be used within the IP address range of the University of Klagenfurt. To gain remote access (from outside the campus) to the licensed content of the University Library Klagenfurt users need to connect via proxy server.
Access to the full texts is possible within the IP range of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. If you are using electronic journals outside of the university, please check your browser settings for the proxy server.
BrowZine
BrowZine offers easy and convenient use of electronic journal content.
You can currently find most of the e-journals made available by the University Library Klagenfurt as well as a large number of open access journals in BrowZine.
BrowZine allows you to
- search for journal titles
- view journals by topic
- display the tables of contents of the journals
- compile journal titles along with the original title page on a virtual bookshelf, “My Bookshelf”
- set up alerts for new articles in journals
- save journal articles to read at a later date, “My Articles”
- export journal articles to literature management programmes and other services such as Dropbox
To create a personal library that includes the functions “My Bookshelf” and “My Articles”, you need to register free of charge. Your personal library is automatically synchronised on all your devices running BrowZine.
If you are on campus, BrowZine automatically displays the main page with the logo of the University of Klagenfurt. Simply select “University of Klagenfurt” from the list of libraries.

BrowZine has been optimised for mobile devices (smartphone, tablet, etc.), but can also be accessed from any browser.
The University Library has integrated BrowZine in the surf@ubk searche engine. The cover images of the respective journals and the following icons are displayed in the search results:
- “Download PDF” -> direct link to the PDF file
- “Heft anzeigen/View Issue” -> the journal is displayed in BrowZine.
LibKey links have also been integrated into numerous databases licensed by the University Library. Clicking on the corresponding button significantly speeds up the access to the full text.
LibKey Nomad
The browser plug-in LibKey Nomad offers many additional features. This plug-in shows you which articles are accessible to members of the University of Klagenfurt when searching on different online platforms (publisher websites, PubMed, Google Scholar or even Wikipedia).
As with the BrowZine app, LibKey Nomad can be downloaded either directly from the provider’s website or from various app stores. It’s available for Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
To set up, install the browser plug-in and then choose the University of Klagenfurt under «Select Organization».
If accessible content is available, this is indicated by corresponding LibKey icons:
LibKey DOI Finder
You can use the LibKey DOI Finder to search for electronic journals or the articles they contain quickly and easily provided you have already determined the corresponding DOI or a PubMed ID. The DOI Finder takes you to the corresponding PDF text document by the quickest route and is also embedded on the University Library website and in surf@ubk.
In order to make use of the DOI Finder with the correct settings, first choose “University of Klagenfurt” in the selection window:

If the full text is licensed by the university, clicking on the PDF link will take you straight to the article.
DOI Quick Search
DOI = a Digital Object Identifier is a unique and permanent digital identifier for physical, digital or abstract objects. It is mainly used for online articles of scholarly and scientific journals.
