The collection of bibliophile prints
Karl Popper, who grew up in a home where he was surrounded by books, acquired during his lifetime rare and early editions of publications by classical authors who had a lasting impact on his thinking. This collection comprises 205 works by eminent writers, philosophers, life scientists and historians, including five incunabula and 79 first editions.
The authors in question include: Aeschylus, Aristophanes, Aristotle, Augustinus, Bacon, Berkeley, Boccaccio, Bolzano, Boyle (13 works), Caesar, Cellini, Cicero, Dante Alighieri, Demosthenes, Descartes, Euripides, Fichte, Galen, Galilei, Hegel, Hesiod, Hobbes, Hume (12 works), Kant (37 works), Kepler (6 works), Laplace, Lavoisier, Leibniz, Liebig, Livius, Locke, Montaigne, Newton (8 works), Petrarch, Plato, Plautus, Plinius the Younger, Plutarch, Pomponius Mela, Rousseau, Sallust, Schopenhauer, Thucydides, Tocqueville, Voltaire and Whewell.
