Profile
The Office of the Student Ombudsman acts as a special authority in cases of conflict, where issues relating to teaching and studies cannot be satisfactorily resolved through regular channels, i.e. by the bodies that hold primary responsibility (Head of Department, Degree Programme Director, Student Union representatives, Admissions Office, Office of Academic Affairs).
Responsibilities
Die Ombudsstelle soll dann aufgesucht werden, wenn herkömmliche Lösungs- und Vermittlungswege versagt haben. In solchen Konfliktfällen kann die Ombudsstelle Studierende in Studien-, Lehr-, Prüfungs-, und Verwaltungsangelegenheiten beraten und unterstützen. Sie nimmt Kontakt mit den Verantwortlichen auf und bemüht sich gemeinsam mit diesen um Lösungen. Sie ist unabhängig und behandelt die Anliegen vertraulich. Das Recht, die Ombudsstelle für Studierende anzurufen, steht allen Studierenden der Universität Klagenfurt zu.
The following issues do not fall within the remit of the Office of the Student Ombudsman:
The Office of the Student Ombudswoman provides advice and mediation in student matters and strives to solve problems together with those concerned. It may also offer recommendations in this context. Members of the university support the work of the office and provide the necessary information.
The Office of the Student Ombudswoman cannot
- amend legislation (laws, regulations),
- repeal official decisions,
- intervene in ongoing proceedings,
- represent you in court,
- issue instructions to members of the university.
National Office of the Austrian Student Ombudsman
The national Office of the Austrian Student Ombudsman is also there to answer questions and solve problems concerning study matters for all domestic and foreign students.
