Modular Robotics
Modern robotic systems increasingly operate in low or unstructured work environments and perform a variety of tasks. Such robots must therefore vary not only in their function, but also in their design. Modular robot systems offer a flexible approach to cover the multitude of requirements on the one hand and to master the complexity of these machines on the other hand.
The research group Modular Robotics is also the bridge to the Institute ROBOTICS of JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH. The institute ROBOTICS works on application-related topics of robot-based automation through modern industrial and service robotics, robot safety in human-robot collaboration and sensor technology for safety-rated perception.
Research topics of Modular Robotics include, as an interface to ROBOTICS, the theoretical foundations for modularly realized, serial and mobile robots, in particular:
Research Topics
– Kinematics of modular and redundant robot systems
– Model-based modular control
– System monitoring and diagnosis
