Mathematics can inspire! This was demonstrated in the first week of July when around 250 pupils visited the “Understanding Mathematics” exhibition. Under the direction of Gerhard Hainscho and Roland Prinz, many different exhibits were on display for puzzling, trying out, playing and having fun.
On Tuesday, June 25, 2024 we celebrated! On the occasion of “50 years of mathematics at the University of Klagenfurt”, the “Gauss Lecture” of the German Mathematical Society (DMV) took place – for the first time in Austria. It was a public lecture by prizewinner Monique Laurent (CWI Amsterdam and Tilburg University) on current developments in mathematics. The lecture was opened by DMV President Joachim Escher. Willibald Dörfler spoke about “the beginning from nothing” of mathematics at the University of Klagenfurt.
Six patent applications have already been registered by the ATHENA laboratory this year, with the most recent being granted in June 2024. The technologies protected by the patents were developed in collaboration between the University of Klagenfurt and Bitmovin. A total of 15 researchers are currently working on innovations in video streaming at the Christian Doppler Laboratory.
After completing a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in International Law at Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, Polina Maslova sought to broaden her horizon by enrolling in the Master’s degree programme International Management at the University of Klagenfurt. Driven by a desire to enhance her qualifications and gain international experience, she chose Austria for its excellent education system and quality of life. In Carinthia, Polina chose a programme that perfectly integrates her legal background with new business insights, advancing both her professional and personal development.
