Die wirtschaftliche Leistungsfähigkeit von Regionen innerhalb von Nationalstaaten unterscheidet sich teils erheblich. Auch innerhalb von fortgeschrittenen Volkswirtschaften gibt es einerseits Regionen mit hoher Wirtschaftskraft und andererseits solche, die abgehängt erscheinen. Warum konvergiert die regionale Wirtschaftskraft trotz vielfältiger Wirtschaftsförderprogramme nicht? Der Impulsvortrag von Professor Oliver Holtemöller geht dieser Frage am Beispiel Deutschlands anhand von Daten auf Kreisebene (den NUTS-3 Regionen in Deutschland) auch vor dem Hintergrund der ehemaligen Teilung des Landes nach und beleuchtet die wirtschaftspolitischen Möglichkeiten zur Förderung des regionalen Wirtschaftswachstums.Im Anschluss an den Vortrag über Wachstumsclubs und Entwicklungsfallen präsentiert Norbert Wohlgemuth einige Quick Facts zu Kärnten und leitet damit über zur Diskussion über Chancen und Risiken in der Regionalentwicklung für Kärnten.
