Comments on Polya: Geometry is the art of correct
reasoning on incorrect figures
Kurzfassung:
Starting from the difference between drawing and figure, the presentation
looks into the teaching and learning of elementary geometry in school with
its interplay of the construction and use of visual displays, concept development
and argumentation, if not formal deduction. This is contrasted
with the out-of-school use of geometry for planning and controlling societal
production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. A
conclusion binds together these two fields of geometric practice in a way,
which is compatible with an epistemological and semiotic understanding of
geometry.
