Beschreibung
There are two common responses to anthropogenic climate change: mitigation (e.g. reducing CO2-emissions) and adaptation. In recent years, proposals of ‘climate engineering’ (CE) have attracted attention as a possible third response. From the outset, such ideas of deliberate, large-scale interventions into the climate system did not only spark research activities but also scientific and public controversy. The presentation draws on my PhD research within the DFG-funded project CE-Scipol2 and will explore how civil society organizations react to CE proposals. Exploratory qualitative research shows an ambivalent relationship between NGOs and science as well as tensions between ‘eco-modernist’ and ‘climate justice’ approaches
