Placement test
We require students who wish to study at our department to have a high overall B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Although you can take a limited number of courses even if your English is not at a high B2 level, you need to prove that you have reached this level before you can be admitted to the majority of courses.
In order to prove that you have reached a high B2 level, you need to take the Oxford Placement Test. It takes 50 minutes at most and is administered online. Several opportunities to take the test are offered during the academic year, but we strongly recommend taking it at the beginning of the semester. You need to register for the Placement test in the ZEUS system. This involves two steps:
Step 1: In ZEUS you will find a course called Placement Test. This is a technicality because you do not need to take a course that is taught on a weekly basis. Nevertheless, you need to register for this course.
Step 2: Once you have registered for the course and you have been accepted, you need to register for the exam (Prüfung). This is essential. If you do not register for the exam, you cannot take the test.
The results of the Placement test will be available on the same day. You need to attain a score of 75 in order to pass. If you do not pass, you can take the test again at the next opportunity.
