DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAMME
Doc.Service
The Doc.Service is an advisory and coordination office for all matters concerning doctoral studies at the University of Klagenfurt. It is point of contact for doctoral candidates and those interested in pursuing a doctorate, but also for lecturers and other university members as well as for external parties. The Doc. Service is also in close dialogue with the Vice Rectorate for Research as well as other units concerned with doctoral studies.
Areas of responsibility
Administration & coordination
The Doc.Service carries out administrative and coordinating activities in the fields of
- the thematic doctoral programmes,
- bi-national doctoral projects, i.e. Cotutelle procedures (in cooperation with the Legal Services Office, the Admissions & Examinations Office and the Office of Academic Affairs),
- the cross-curricular course offer at the doctoral level,
- the Fulbright programme,
- the Karl Popper Kolleg.
Support & advice
We offer support and information on different levels:
- individual consultations (by appointment)
- info sessions
- the university’s website on doctoral studies
Funding management (advice & administration)
The Doc.Service administers the following internal funding mechanisms:
- Mobility funding
- Grants for Klagenfurt doctoral students in support of short-term foreign visits
- Promoting active conference participation by doctoral students who are not currently employed by the University of Klagenfurt
- Promoting the participation of doctoral students in courses, seminars and conferences
- Young Scientists Mentoring Programme
- Reimbursement of accommodation and travel expenses incurred by external reviewers and examiners in the context of defensiones
Events
Info sessions
On a regular basis, the Doc.Service offers on-campus and online info sessions in English and German, which primarily address doctoral candidates and those interested in pursuing a doctorate at the University of Klagenfurt. The format of group consultations offers a first opportunity to network and exchange ideas with (potential) fellow students.
Doctoral Day
The Doctoral Day is organised annually by the Vice Rectorate for Research in collaboration with the Doc.Service. Doctoral candidates and those interested in pursuing a doctorate have the opportunity to orient and inform themselves, to network and exchange ideas with peers and others.
