The objective of the ECARE project is to reduce social isolation as well as mental, physical and relational difficulties of elderly people living in their own homes or in homes provided by the public administration.
The intervention model provided by ECARE is centred around the involvement of the community (neighbours, friends, relatives) and the creation of new relationships and common interests in the sense of a "community". Elderly participants are accompanied in improving their lifestyle, on the basis of an assessment by professionals regarding their risk in certain areas, i.e. physical activity, cognitive stimulation and sensory stimulation, that are relevant to their social relationships and to their health.
The experiments are based on the usage of a digital platform to support various applications including a smartwatch. The watch enables a smart connection between the elderly person and the members of his or her community. In addition to this, the platform can be used to monitor the lifestyle improvement within the different areas. It helps to identify how this improvement can be achieved continuously. The validation of the results is based on specific indicators of the quality of life and on a cost-benefit analysis. It is expected to have an impact on reducing expenditure of the provision of social and health services.
This project is led by a cross-border partnership coordinated by the Istituto per Servizi di Ricovero and Assistenza agli Anziani (ISRAA) in Treviso with the partners ASP Umberto I from Pordenone, Azienda Servizi Sociali Assistenziali Srl (SerSA) from Belluno. The Alpen Adria University Klagenfurt has a consultative role and is responsible for the evaluation of the impacts.
The E.CA.R.E. project involves 146 elderly people aged 65 and over who live independently in their own homes or in the three pilot sites in assisted living. It is expected to involve 80 participants from Treviso, 50 from Belluno and 16 from Pordenone.
The project has received financial support from the EU in the amount of € 675,168,19 of EFRE funding and national funding of € 102,186,79 (total budget: € 810,864,78).
