University of Klagenfurt is a winner at ‘Kärnten radelt 2024’!
Cycling is good for your health and the environment. That’s why the University of Klagenfurt once again took part in the ‘Kärnten radelt’ (Carinthia cycles) campaign in 2024 and offered an additional prize under the motto ‘The University gets cycling’. The commitment of the university members is impressive: The University of Klagenfurt wins in the ‘Universities/Colleges’ category with an impressive 38,422.96 kilometres cycled – on 19 November 2024, Martin Hitz, Chairman of the Senate, accepted the award on behalf of the university in the Spiegelsaal of the Carinthian provincial government in Klagenfurt.
The University of Klagenfurt is delighted to receive the award for the final result of 38,422.96 kilometers cycled in ‘Kärnten radelt 2024’ and, above all, is particularly pleased about the high level of commitment of the people who made this great result possible with their participation and performance!
The University of Klagenfurt endeavours to encourage as many employees and students as possible to commute to university by bike. To this end, commuting by bike should be made as easy and pleasant as possible, which is why the university continuously invests in its cycling infrastructure: Last year, five new electric bicycles were purchased and covered bicycle parking spaces were created at the cafeteria building. A new bicycle service station next to the central building now enables cyclists to perform minor repairs and maintenance on their bikes.
The internal winner of ‘The University gets cycling’, who will receive a voucher worth 150 euros from the bicycle company Mountainbiker, as well as further winners who will be rewarded with prizes from ‘Kärnten radelt’, are still being determined.
The University of Klagenfurt is certified according to the EMAS environmental management system. Climate protection and the preservation of natural resources are therefore declared goals of the university. Cycling to work and to university makes a significant contribution to this.
