DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAMME
As soon as all requirements for taking the defence have been met, i.e.
you will be notified by e-mail to your student e-mail address that you can register for the final examination and download the reports in your campus portal. To do this, please go to “My applications / Submit new application” in your account in the student portal and select the link “Registration for the final degree examination” under “Applications for graduation”.
If this application is not yet available for you, one of the above requirements has not yet been met.
The application for the final examination must be submitted at least 5 weeks before the intended date. Please contact all members of the examination committee, agree a date and time and notify them of the composition of your examination committee in your online ‘Register for your final exam’ application.
The examination committee is composed of a total of three persons, whereby supervisors or advisors are members without voting rights. As a doctoral candidate, you have the right not only to appoint your two examiners, but also to propose a university member with a relevant teaching qualification as chairperson.
If you do not exercise your right to nominate a chairperson, the rector of studies will appoint a chairperson. The vice-rector of studies appoints the examination committee on the recommendation of the study program director.
Regulations according to Curriculum 18W
The examination committee consists of at least three voting members with a venia docendi (authorisation to teach) in a relevant subject; the members must include at least one reviewer. Supervisors can be members of the examination committee, however are unable to vote. Students can propose examiners.

Doctoral programmes conclude with a public viva. A viva is a final examination in front of an examination committee; regulations concerning the viva are set out in the curriculum. Regulations from § 12 (5) and (7) are to be applied. Examiners are to be appointed in accordance with § 12 (2) and (3); the members of the examination committee must include at least one reviewer. Students can propose examiners. Supervisors can be members of the examination committee, however are unable to vote.
