CYCLE KICK-OFF: The University of Klagenfurt gets cycling

The CYCLE KICK-OFF on the 28th of April marks the start of the campaign called “The university gets cycling”. Around 35 bike enthusiasts joined the bike tour organised by the university and UNIKUM.

The CYCLE KICK-OFF launched a series of cycling challenges that will take place at the University of Klagenfurt this summer semester. The aim of the initiative is to swap commuter kilometres travelled by car for low-emission, healthier kilometres travelled by bicycle wherever possible. In doing so, the university is following the principle “What is good for the climate is also good for people” and is looking forward to large numbers of participants.

The cyclists met in the afternoon of the 28th of April on the forecourt of the university, where Martin Hitz (Mobility Officer) and Niki Meixner (UNIKUM) opened the event along with Christian Salmhofer (Climate Alliance Austria). The participants then went on to explore unknown and unusual places around the campus, guided by UNIKUM. There were brief lectures and musical interludes performed by Ukrainian musicians at various stops along the way. The final destination of the tour was the Kalmusbad in Klagenfurt/Ebenthal where the tour ended in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
