Choosing a degree programme and embarking on a new phase of your life is an exciting time: The University of Klagenfurt is here to help you and offers prospective students and first-semester students a wide range of guidance and support. On these pages we explain what your initial steps will be and where you can find support.

The student guidance team is the first point of contact for anyone who wants to find out about degree programmes, course content and the structure of their desired study programme. You can access straightforward and tailored information and advice at any time – on campus or online.

Be first! Mentoring programme
Be First! is a very special mentoring programme for prospective students. Specially trained mentors, who are themselves students at the University of Klagenfurt, encourage young people who hope to be the first in their family to take up a course of study. The mentors offer insights into studying and support you in choosing a course of study and during your first months as a student.

Student counselling services
Choosing the right degree programme is not always easy. The Student Counselling Services team provide help when it comes to selecting a course of study or switching to a different degree programme. Our experts can help you to develop your educational and professional ideas and explore educational options. Counselling is provided individually or in groups and lasts for an agreed period of time. The services are provided free of charge, confidentially and, if desired, anonymously.

2 – Check your admission requirements!


Admissions and examinations office
If you have any questions about registration procedures, the recognition of examinations, the required documents or certificates, the Admissions and Examinations Office is your point of contact. This is also where you will enrol in person and receive your student ID.

3 – Start your studies!


ÖH Info Days
The Info Days organised by the Austrian Student Union (ÖH) Klagenfurt take place in the weeks before and around the start of the semester. Freshers can get advice from the respective student representatives and discover all they need to know about getting their studies off to a good start. Get help with organising your timetable or find out about grants and scholarships.

Welcome Days
The Welcome Days provide first-semester students with key information about starting their studies. Here you can get to know your fellow students, your lecturers and your student representatives and find out about the helpful service facilities at the university. In addition to
campus and library tours, you can also enjoy a free snack. The ÖH offers additional activities to help all first-year students get to know campus life.

Servicepoint Tutoring & Mentoring
The peer tutors at the servicepoint are support and contact persons for all study-related matters. You can get help and tips during the open consultation hours in the Aula without needing to reserve in advance. In short info sessions, the tutors will answer your questions on important
everyday study topics and invite you to network. There are also learning spaces for individual study programmes where you can practise presentations or discuss exam material.

Programme directors
Every Bachelor’s and Master’s programme has a programme director who can help you with any questions about your studies, recognition of exams, mandatory internships or theses. You can find contact details for your degree programme in the student portal/campus system.

The ÖH – your representation
The Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) is the legal representative body for all students. By paying the ÖH fee, you automatically become a member of the ÖH. This is your voice in dealings with teaching staff, the university management and the public. You can also take advantage of many services, receive discounts and get in touch with your student representatives at any time. Plus: the ÖH promotes a vibrant campus life by organising numerous events and activities, such as the summer party, ski days, pub quizzes, game nights and much more.
