DigiFit4All
The project DigiFit4All aims at teaching digital and computer skills through personalized courses (POOCs) in a customized form to different target groups. It is based on different national as well as international competency models, which are transferred into a general graph model. These graphs are created by interdependencies of the respective competencies and enable the determination of necessary prior knowledge, individual learning paths or central competencies. The GECKO (Graph-based Environment for Competency and Knowledge-Item Organization) platform of the Institute for Informatics Didactics at the University of Klagenfurt will be used and extended accordingly.
For each competency, teaching materials, assessment questions and test items are developed and stored. The teaching materials, known as learning objects, are prepared in packages for eLearning environments, so-called OERs (Open Educational Resources). In addition, the OERs are stored in a suitable project repository and connected to the Open Education Austria subject portal. In particular, the platforms Moodle and iMoox are supported. At the beginning of a course, assessment questions are addressed to learners and serve to evaluate individual skills and competencies already acquired. The results of these questions are used to determine the competencies that the learner would still have to acquire in order to be able to finish a course positively. These are then highlighted in the personalized online course, while topics that have already been mastered remain accessible but are kept in the background. Test items are used to check whether a competency has been achieved and will be part of the exam and thus the grading at the end of a course. Both types of questioning, assessment questions and test items, are carried out via the KAUA (Košice and Alpen-Adria University Assessment) platform of the Institute for Informatics Didactics at the University of Klagenfurt. For the requirements of the project, this platform will also be adapted and extended.
Teachers at schools or universities who take advantage of the project’s opportunities will select from the overall index of collected competencies the ones that are appropriate for their course and will receive suggestions for competencies required as prior knowledge. The result is a basic framework for an online course that can be customized based on the learners’ results in the assessment questions.
The following target groups are planned for the project:
- Schoolchildren
- Students
- Teachers
- Staff
The University of Klagenfurt is working on the project together with the partners Johannes-Keppler-University Linz (JKU), Danube University Krems (DUK) and the Vienna University of Technology (TUW). The Institute for Informatics Didactics at the University of Klagenfurt is supported by the Institute of Instructional and School Development (IUS) and the eLearning Service. Furthermore, there is a close cooperation with the Graz University of Technology (TUG) for the integration into iMoox. The project DigiFit4All is part of the cluster “Informatics and Digital Skills” and is therefore in constant exchange and in close coordination with the members of this cluster at the University of Vienna, the University of Innsbruck and the Vienna University of Technology.
