Welcome to the University of Klagenfurt!
A warm welcome to all new University of Klagenfurt students! You have enrolled and now you are ready to start your studies at the most beautiful campus university in Austria.
On the following pages, you will find out everything you need to know about getting off to a great start as a new student at the University of Klagenfurt.
Important dates for the start of your programme
The winter semester starts on 1 October and the summer semester starts on 1 March. An overview of all important dates for students can be found in the academic year calendar of the University of Klagenfurt.
Welcome Days
The Welcome Days for all first-semester students provide you with everything you need to know about starting your degree programme. We will show you how to manage your studies in an efficient and focused manner, while also enjoying your time as a student. Find out more about the Welcome Days
ÖH INFO-DAYS
At the start of each semester, the Österreichische Hochschüler:innenschaft (Austrian National Union of Students, in short: ÖH), your student representative organisation, invites all new students to the Info-Days. They offer you advice on all aspects of studying, for example help with creating your individual study schedule. Find out more about the ÖH Info-Days
Your AAU.card
Your AAU.card is a student ID and service card in one. You will receive it when you enrol; after paying the ÖH fees and, if applicable, the tuition fee, you can activate it at the machine next to the Admissions and Examinations Office. Find out more about the AAU.card
The student portal
The student portal campus.aau.at is the place where you can find and organise all study-related matters: course registration, your grades, confirmation of enrolment and much more.
Recommended courses of study
Your recommended course of study will help you plan your studies: it is provided by the programme director (Studienprogrammleitung, in short: SPL) and shows you an example of the courses you should attend in the first two semesters in order to gain a good knowledge base and take the necessary examinations if you want to complete your studies within the minimum period of study. The STEOP
The Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP for short) gives you an overview of the content and structure of your programme of study. It can help you assess whether a programme of study is what you expected. Find out more about the STEOP
Minimum academic performance and examination activity
Students who are admitted to a Bachelor’s degree programme from the winter semester 2022/23 onwards are obliged to complete 16 ECTS credits within the first four semesters; this constitutes the minimum academic performance. If you manage to complete at least 16 ECTS credits in each academic year, you will be registered as ‘prüfungsaktiv’ (‘examination-active’) – your examination activity will provide the university with more financial resources that it can invest in further improving the general conditions for your studies. ÖH, ServiceCenter & student representatives of your degree programme
The Österreichische Hochschüler:innenschaft (Austrian National Union of Students, in short: ÖH) is your student representative organisation and has statutory rights of co-determination at universities. The ÖH-ServiceCenter is the central point of contact for general ÖH services. The ÖH-Studienvertretungen (ÖH student representatives of your degree programme) offer you specific support relevant to your degree programme.
Psychological student counselling
The Psychologische Studierendenberatung (Psychological Counselling Center) offers individual counselling as well as psychological and psychotherapeutic groups on various topics.
Be First! mentoring programme
Your mentoring programme if you are the first in your family to study: At the Be First! mentoring programme, older students who are already familiar with studying support you in your first year of study.
University Sports Institute (USI)
The Universitätssportinstitut (University Sports Institute, in short: USI) offers over 250 courses across a wide range of sports activities – you can find the entire course programme on the USI website.
24-hour library
With your AAU.card and authorisation via the student portal, you can use the university library at any time!
Studo PRO App
With Studo PRO, you’re always up to date: thanks to the calendar, timetable, e-mails, chat and other features, you can organise your studies with ease. Find out more about Studo PRO
Parking at the university
The parking spaces at the University of Klagenfurt are subject to parking fees, but as a student you can buy a cheap long-term parking ticket so that you don’t have to buy a new ticket every day.
STUDIbike special rate
The nextbike bike rental system offers a special STUDIbike rate for students. A rental station is located directly on the university campus.
