Representations and commissioners
Representations
Representations for the University of Klagenfurt staff include the Works Council for Research Staff, the Works Council for General University Staff and the Disability representatives. The Austrian National Students’ Union (Union of Students) looks after the interests of students at the university.
The Equal Opportunities Working Group (AKG)
Section 42 (1) of the Universities Act 2002 stipulates that an Equal Opportunities Working Group must be set up by the Senate of every university in Austria. This collegial body is tasked with tackling discrimination by university governing bodies based on gender, ethnicity, religion or belief, age or sexual orientation and with offering support and advice to university staff and offices on these issues. The AKG can also answer queries about the advancement of women.

Student Ombudsman
The Student Ombudsman is a special authority that helps to resolve issues relating to teaching and programmes of study when all other attempts at resolution have been unsuccessful, i.e. the issue could not be resolved by the office or individual with responsibility for the area concerned, such as the Head of Department, Programme Director, Students’ Union Representative, Admissions & Examinations Office or Office of Academic Affairs.
Arbitration Committee
The Arbitration Committee is a committee set up in accordance with Section 43 Universities Act 2002 and can be called upon to resolve conflicts between members of the university (according to Section 94 Universities Act 2002, members of the university refers to students, students in receipt of a research grant, academic staff and staff teaching on fine arts programmes, general university personnel, the private lecturers, Emeritus professors and retired professors).
