What kind of joint activities are possible?
- Insight into the mentor’s field of work: looking over their shoulder for a day
- Advice and career tips: Discuss questions about starting a career and entering the job market
- Guided tour of the company
- Getting to know colleagues and different areas of work in person
- Exchange (telephone, face-to-face, e-mail) with respect to the latest corporate topics
- Participation in company events (seminars, team events, etc.)
- Participation in excursions
- Participation in in-house training measures
- Project/seminar/Bachelor’s/Master’s thesis within the company
- Internship/summer job
- Part-time work accompanying the degree programme

What is job shadowing?
Beginnings are often difficult. To ease your entry into professional life, our mentors will support you within the framework of the job shadowing project. They will welcome you into their everyday working life for a day and will also invite you to take part in other activities that will support you in your career planning. You will learn first-hand what it truly takes to be successful and you will be able to build valuable professional contacts.
By participating, you will gain a practical insight into the field of activity and the work of your host mentor, gather expert information, find out about career prospects and forge valuable contacts.
This will help you with your transition into a job and your professional orientation.
Who can participate in the project? And how?
Students from all fields of study – regardless of their academic progress – are encouraged to use the initiative for their career development.

Who can be a job shadowing mentor?
You can participate in the project if …
- you are an exhibitor at the job & career fair connect
- the job shadowing initiative is part of your cooperation agreement
- you are a graduate of the University of Klagenfurt
What is your benefit?
As a mentor in the job shadowing project, you offer our students individual insights into your professional responsibilities and company processes. This allows you to meet potential employees at an early stage and to showcase your company. You also support our students in their career development.
What do we do?
We post your profile online, organise the launch and come-together events, promote the events and the initiative to students and keep in touch with you during the project cycle to support you with any questions and finally to ask about your experiences.
What are your responsibilities?

- Attend the launch & come-together events
- Select the most suitable student(s) and communicate the result to all interested students
- Agree on and organise personalised joint activities
- Ongoing communication with the Career Service
