“The task of a university is the creation of the future.” (Alfred North Whitehead)
Research at the University of Klagenfurt
“The mission of the universities is to serve academic research and teaching, and the advancement, appreciation and teaching of the arts, and thereby to contribute to the personal development of the individual, and to the welfare of society and the environment.” (§ 1, Universities Act 2002)
The University of Klagenfurt offers many contributions in a variety of disciplines. The university’s four faculties, each incorporating a broad range of subjects, provide a strong framework. Furthermore, as “university of short distances”, the University of Klagenfurt is predestined to encourage interdisciplinary developments. Over the past few years, these have resulted in research clusters, taking the form of interdisciplinary cooperation arrangements. Other areas of focus are rendered visible in areas of research strength and in numerous other formats (such as the Karl Popper Kollegs).
At the same time, we have made it our particular mission to support young researchers by providing a research environment that is characterised by openness and cooperation: The curiosity, enthusiasm and commitment of young researchers are essential driving forces for the university; encouraging their dynamic development is therefore of great importance to us.
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martina Merz
Institutional partnerships
The University of Klagenfurt maintains institutional co-operation arrangements with research partners, enabling synergies and thus helping to contribute to the generation of scientific knowledge beyond the borders of the university.
