1st Alps-Adriatic Inverse Problems Summer School (July 3-4, 2023)
From July 3-4 2023 the University of Klagenfurt hosted the 1st Alps-Adriatic Inverse Problems Summer School. The school was attended by 23 doctoral students from 16 universities in 6 countries, most of them also attending the subsequent 3rd Alps-Adriatic Inverse Problems Workshop. Experts in their respective fields covered 2 important topics in inverse problems in the form of minicourses:
- Radu Ioan Boţ (University of Vienna, Austria) presented numerical methods for convex and nonconvex optimization. The lecture covered a wide variety of classical algorithms with provable convergence properties for non-smooth problems, as well as several newly developed methods.
- William Rundell (Texas A&M University, USA) talked about inverse problems for fractional partial differential equations. Using the examples of the Laplace equation, the heat equation and the wave equation, the lecture explored the concept of fractional derivatives and the arising partial differential equations. A special focus lied of the inherent regularization that is obtained by employing those equations.
The summer school was supported by the FWF doc.funds doctoral school Modeling-Analysis-Optimization of discrete, continuous, and stochastic systems.
