TEWI-Kolloquium: A Survey of Evaluation Techniques and Systems for Answer Set Programming

VeranstaltungsortS.1.42Veranstalter Fakultät für Technische WissenschaftenBeschreibungAnswer set programming (ASP) is a prominent knowledge representation and reasoning paradigm that found both industrial and scientific applications. The success of ASP is due to the combination of two factors: a rich modeling language and the availability of efficient ASP implementations. In this talk we trace the history of ASP systems, describing the key evaluation techniques and their implementation in actual tools.Vortragende(r)Prof. Francesco RiccaKontaktKerstin Smounig (Kerstin.Smounig@aau.at)

Sophisticated and small versus simple and sizeable: When does it pay off to introduce drifting coefficients in Bayesian VARs?

VeranstaltungsortZ.1.08Veranstalter Institut für StatistikBeschreibungWe assess the relationship between model size and complexity in the time-varying parameter VAR framework via thorough predictive exercises for the Euro Area, the United Kingdom and the United States. It turns out that sophisticated dynamics through drifting coefficients are important in small data sets while simpler models tend to perform better in sizeable data sets.To combine best of both worlds, novel shrinkage priors help to mitigate the curse of dimensionality, resulting in competitive forecasts for all scenarios considered. Furthermore, we discuss dynamic model selection to improve upon the best performing individual model for each point in time.Vortragende(r)Dr. Gregor KastnerWU WienKontaktSimone Gahleitner (simone.gahleitner@aau.at)
