Wie die ausgewählten Filme aus der kurzen Zeitspanne von 1955 bis 1962 unter Beweis stellen – viele von ihnen sind Klassiker des Genres –, ist das Gericht wie für den Film gemacht: zugleich dramatisch und intellektuell, ebenso eristisch wie elenktisch. Gerichtsfilme nehmen häufig Bezug auf gesellschaftliche und politische Realitäten, zu denen sie Stellung nehmen.
