Research Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) in Sustainability Science (M/F)

The successful candidate will be a member of the Research Unit ‘Education, Cognition, Culture and Society’ within the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education at the University of Luxembourg. Here, he/she will join the research group on Sustainability Science and Transformative Learning Processes. He/she will work under the supervision of Dr Ariane König. The position is created in the framework of the project “NEXUS FUTURES – Herausforderungen im Umgang mit Wasser und Land in Luxemburg: transformatives Lernen durch Systembetrachtungen, Szenarien und Citizen Science” financed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure.

Your Role
The postdoctoral researcher has the following specific tasks:
- Lead a process drawing on diverse forms of knowledge (expert and local knowledge) for the development of a set of national scenarios, including collaborative conceptual modelling of a complex social-ecological-technological system for participatory water governance in Luxembourg
- Contribute to a collaborative design process for an internet-based citizen science tool in contribution to sustainable water governance for improved water quality and security
- Management of the development of a digital learning platform for sustainable governance of water, taking a complex social-ecological systems’ perspective
- Help address data preservation, data accuracy and security, and data processing aspects
The postdoctoral researcher has the following general tasks:
- Project management
- Conduct interviews
- Organize, run and follow-up of workshops deploying collaborative methods for systems thinking, scenario development
- Collaborate in the preparation of journal publications with other team members (e.g. data analysis; provide summary of findings; literature reviews)
- Prepare meetings and report on the project progress
- Participate in conferences and contribute in other ways to disseminate findings
Your Profile
- A Ph.D. degree relating to systems and scenario methods used to explore futures of complex and dynamic social-ecological-technological systems, preferably with some relation to water governance or socio-hydrology
- Experience in implementing qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Good knowledge of theories, models, and current research in the area of complex social-ecological systems, prior research in the area of hydrology and/or water governance is a strong asset
- Familiarity with science and technology studies (STS), sociology of knowledge, or related fields that direct attention to the co-production of science, knowledge, technologies and social practices and culture
- Strong knowledge of computer programming and experience in the management of ICT development projects is a strong asset
- Excellent communication and social skills that enable him/her to work in a team
- Previous experience in European research projects will be considered as an advantage
An excellent command of English and German (written and spoken) is required. Fluency in reading and writing French is helpful.
